XPS 15 9510/20, SK Hynix PC801 firmware
PC801 NVMe SK hynix 1TB
This SSD came installed in my XPS 15.
The drive seems to have an issue where it will disappear from windows and the bios intermittently, then randomly reappear later. I did some research on this issue and people suggest to update the firmware of the drive, but I do not see that fimware anywhere on Dell's site.
If I go try to get firmware directly from SK Hynix, it is for the consumer level SSD not for the OEM (dell) specific models, so it will not actually run the update.
I NEED DELL FIRMWARE. If Dell has supplied this SSD with their laptops, they must have firmware for it. Where can I find it?

Go to the downloads page for the specific model you have (locate by service tag). If there is an update, it will be there.

* Or, go HERE and click your specific XPS 15 from the nine models listed =

* Then look for SK Hynix PC801 in the Drivers & Downloads list

The problem is it is not listed in the drivers and downloads page for any of the XPS 15 models that I have checked. We have XPS 15 9510 and XPS 15 9520, it does not show up under either of those, or any of the others I've looked at.
It also does not show up in a general search like every other firmware seems to. For example if I just search BC901 which is another SK hynix SSD in the search bar at the very top of the page (Search Dell or Identify your Product), it pulls up the firmware page for that. I cannot do the same with this PC801 SSD.

That means there is no update available.
Unless this problem originated when the system was new, it's unlikely a firmware issue. Much more likely is that it's a system board problem (and the probability of that increases markedly with the system age).

Yeah, if you can find it listed for a similar vintage Dell laptop's official downloads, you can use it.
But my XPS15-9520 came with a Samsung OEM PM9A1.
If it's disappearing from the BIOS ... sounds like a hardware problem ... as it should never do that. That is not really something that would be glitchy in firmware after all these years (we would have caught it). More like malfunctioning or bad connection ... like inside the laptop ... under the ridiculously hard-to-remove 95x0 metal bottom cover. Unless you are good with stuff like this, you should probably just let a laptop-technician take a look at it.
Finally, a 512gb (retail) Samsung NVMe SSD is like dirt-cheap now-days. Do a bit of research and get the proper-speed NVMe one (not sure if your laptop handles the 4x4 ones or not).
