XPS 15 9500 Can't install NVME SSD Driver

XPS 15 9500

XPS 15 9500

Hello. I have a XPS 15 9500 that's running a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB drive.

All of the drivers, windows updates are installed (nothing new available)

I have Samsung Magician installed and everything is working fine with the system and the drive itself but the issue I'm facing is, in samsung magician, under the drive information, it's showing the serial number, firmware but the driver information is unknown. So I downloaded nvme express driver installer but it gives me an error when installing.

Also, under device manager, the drive shows that it has the latest driver installed from microsoft and no new driver is available.

I have looked in the bios to see of something needs disabling so this programme can install but I can't see anything or find a fix.

Any advice and resolution will be great.

Thanks 😊

Is the drive running with Intel RST (RAID) turned on?  If it is, Magician cannot have direct drive access.  F2 at powerup to check.

@ejn63 Yes it is, but when I try and choose ACHI/AHCI and reboot, it loops the start up and won't boot to the desktop. So I have to go back into the bios, choose RAID again and boots up fine but then I'm back to square one of the dilemma.

There are ways to alter the Windows install to boot in AHCI mode.

Start with a full, verified backup of the system.  Then search for "change windows from IRST to AHCI without reinstalling" and any number of guides will appear as to how to accomplish the task.
