XPS 15 7590 Touchpad only recognized as mouse (no gestures)
I have a Dell XPS 15 7590 <Private data removed from public view. DELL-Admin> that is giving me persistent problems with the touchpad. It is no longer detected as a precision touchpad but only as a generic mouse. Because of this, I can’t use two-finger scrolling, three-finger swipes, or volume gestures anymore. The cursor feels very slow, and although clicking works, dragging and multi-touch gestures don’t. The touchpad settings page in Windows stays completely blank as well.
So far I’ve tried reinstalling the drivers through Device Manager, downloading and installing the official Dell drivers for my model, running DISM and SFC to repair possible system file issues, reinstalling the Intel HID Event Filter and chipset drivers, and checking the Windows touchpad settings. In Device Manager the device only shows up as a “HID-compliant mouse” and a “PS/2 compatible mouse,” never as a touchpad. And the Touchpad setting page of windows is also empty.
My system is running Windows 11. The touchpad itself still works at a very basic level, but only as a simple mouse.
I would really appreciate any advice on whether this is more likely to be a driver/software problem or if it could point to a hardware issue.
Thanks in advance,
Noah
