XPS 15 7590, Killer AX1650x 160MHz not functioning properly

Hello,

What started to occur following an OS transfer from my 200GB SSD to a 2TB SSD was a Code 56 (according to Device Manager) registered under the VPN I use. After some attempts to resolve this issue, I went ahead to click 'Network Reset' in 'Settings' on my Windows 10 Dell XPS 15 7590 (this was the initial issue of resolving the VPN).

After this, my Killer(r) Wi-Fi Wireless Network Adapter was experiencing a Code 56, whereby "Windows is still setting up the class configuration for this device." I have attempted multiple ways to resolve this using Command Prompt and constantly rebooting my PC, yet this still persists (this has now become the main issue).

Can anyone please advise?

Thank you.

Next suggestion would be a clean, ground-up reinstall of Windows.

At minimum, remove the VPN software, reboot and reinstall it.  You may also want to remove the network drivers afterward, before rebooting the system and reinstalling them.

This error is usually an issue with the VPN client itself, not the network hardware or drivers, so if it persists, check with your VPN support group or the VPN software publisher.

@ejn63 While this was the initial issue, this issue has now risen to the point of my Wi-Fi driver not functioning properly. I have already uninstalled the VPN software and manually removed the TAP driver associated with this VPN from Device Manager. The issue still persists. I have added in the information about the VPN as I thought it may serve as a useful detail to resolving my Wi-Fi connectivity.

For further context, there are no Internet broadband connections shown on the list of networks available. All I can only do is rely on an Ethernet connection.

Did you remove all the network drivers and restart the system, and then reinstall the wifi drivers?

I do not know if I have specifically done this, but I can try this. I recall that I did something similar, but through Command Prompt. Let me try and see if anything changes.

You can try a windows socket reset from a command prompt with admin privilege:

netsh winsock reset catalog

Then reboot.

@ejn63 I have tried both of these methods, yet the issue still persists. By the time I reboot the PC, the driver is automatically reinstalled but with the same Code 56 reappearing.

I hope to not be impatient, but can anyone offer any solutions to this? Thank you.

@ejn63 , thank you for your reply.

For clarity, can you please advise on how I can reinstall Windows while keeping my files and data?

There is that option when you do the installation.  That said, a clean install would be a better idea, and even if you do try a refresh install that keeps your data, DO NOT begin without making and verifying a full backup of your data files.

Things can and do go wrong and you could otherwise lose everything.

@ejn63 I have complete the re-installation while keeping my files. I can confirm that the Wi-Fi Wireless Network Adapter is now fully functional. There are no more problems anymore.

Thank you very much for your advice and assistance.
