XPS 13 9310 stopped charging while the laptop in on.

XPS 13 9310

XPS 13 9310

It all started after I got a pop up from DELL asking if it can update my BIOS and I Oked it.

My current status is if I want my battery to be charged, I have to shut down the system. So now, with the charger attached, I use the laptop as I keep an eye on the battery level going down. Then I shut down the laptop. And immediately I see the LED light comes on and given enough time it charges the battery fully.

I think DELL has to look into their mess up in their BIOS update.

Does the same thing happen with the other Thunderbolt port?

@ejn63 Good Point. I tried it and the answer is yes. I switch the port. The LED stayed off. Shutdown the laptop and charging LED came on. Start the laptop and the LED went off.

To whom I owe thanks for unexpected fortune.

After over two month trying to figure what is wrong, it is all better now. Did it fixed itself or did I get Sofware update that fixed it?

I switched charging port as recommended, purchased and used a new charger directly form DELL, and reset the BIOS to factory default. None of them worked. The battery status showed good and changing mother board was not an option or made any sense since the charging apparatus and software worked when the operating system was off. It had to be Sofware. Right?

As of three days ago, it started working all by itself. Did I get a software update?
