XPS 13 9300, volume stuck at max level

My XPS is having an issue where the volume is stuck at it's max level. The volume slider that appears on the screen when the volume controls are used show the number associated with the volume level lowering and raising, but the volume consistently stays at it's max level. Again, the number on the volume slider changes, but the volume stays at it's max level. Any suggestions on how to resolve?
