XPS 13 9300 - Build in camera not working. Microphone not picking sound as well. Any help appreciated.

Build in camera of my XPS 13 9300 stop working after window update.

Microphone not picking sound at similar time.

Tried everything I can think of -  confirmed all settings of Bios, privacy, antivirus as correct, and window updates and drivers as up to dated.  Also  tried potential solutions found online - including as advised by DELL-Nat M as per post / link below, and had tried reinstalling window twice but no joy.

I believe these issues are caused by drivers problems/clashed and not hardware related.

Any advice and help will much appreciated.

Troubleshooting Laptop Camera Issues

If your laptop cannot find the camera, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Check BIOS Settings:

    • Restart your laptop and press the F2 key repeatedly during the boot process to enter the BIOS setup.
    • Navigate to Integrated Devices and ensure that the Enable Camera option is checked.
    • Save changes and exit the BIOS.
  2. Check Privacy Settings:

    • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera.
    • Ensure that the option Allow apps to access your camera is enabled.
    • Verify that the specific app you want to use has permission to access the camera.
  3. Inspect Physical Connections:

    • If using an external USB camera, ensure it is securely connected to the USB port.
    • Try connecting the camera to a different USB port to rule out port issues.
  4. Check for Privacy Shutter:

    • Some laptops and webcams have a physical privacy shutter. Ensure it is in the open position.
  5. Update Camera Drivers:

    • Use SupportAssist to check for driver updates. Search for SupportAssist in the Windows search bar and run a full system scan.
  6. Run Windows Updates:

    • Ensure your operating system is up to date by checking for Windows updates.
  7. Restart Your Computer:

    • After making changes, restart your laptop to apply the settings.

If the issue persists after following these steps, further investigation may be needed to identify hardware or software problems.

I've followed those steps, but it's not working.

In device settings, the camera is not recognized bij Windows.

Yes, I've solved the problem indeed!

In the BIOS I've disabled the camera, rebooted the system, removed the unknown devices in device settings. Then re-activated the cam in the bios and then miraculously the system recognized the camera and installed the correct drivers.

Good luck!

Hello,

Mine was found to have broken cables affecting the display, microphone, and camera, which caused multiple issues. I have used the laptop very carefully, yet still encountered these problems—something I have never experienced with any other laptops I’ve owned. This is genuinely shocking and reflects very poor manufacturing quality.

@vdpapak

In mine it is found in the menu: "system configuration" and then submenu "integrated devices"

As well in the xps 9300 and the 9320 the camera can be switched on and off in the bios.

Good luck.

@E_M

Mine had a broken cable as well, at 25month just out of warranty (I really believe that sometimes you just have bad luck) but they repaired it without costs.

I think that the main argument in favour of Dell is their excellent service.
