Will a SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD with Heatsink 2TB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe M.2 fit in my XPS 15 9560

Will a SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD with Heatsink 2TB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe M.2 fit in my XPS 15 9560. That currently has a 1TB PCIe Gen 3 NVMe M.2 2280?

It should be just fine in the system -- modern SSDs will self-throttle if the temperature rises too high.

Thanks again ejn63. My main goal is to get a 2TB drive (I've run out of space on the original 1TB SSD PCIe NVMe M.2) that will run on and won't wreck the system. Will the SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe M.2, without the heatsink, run om my system (at Gen 3 speeds I presume) and not wreck my system or ruin the drive? It seems harder to find older gen ssd that support 2TB?

Thanks for your reply. Does the SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe M.2 require the heatsink? If so what 2TB SSD PCIe NVMe M.2 do you recommend?

No. The NVMe drives with attached heatsinks are too large to fit a notebook - they're designed for desktop systems.

There's no doubt that a high performance drive like this one can benefit from a heatsink, but there are two issues: there's no space in the system for a true heatsink, and heatsinks only work as well as the cooling system around them, and this notebook isn't built to cool the SSD. Since you won't benefit from PCIe 4 speeds (the system won't support that), you may want to consider a PCIe 3 drive that's less power hungry. That said, the drive in question won't draw as much power as it would in a system that runs PCIe 4 speeds -- which of course, the 9560 does not.

Thanks for your post. I got a good deal on the drive a while back, installed it with no problems.

Hello,
Would you mind sharing the settings in BIOS? I got the same 980 Pro on deal but my 9560 doesn't detect it.
