WD19TB has stopped playing nice with LogiTech MX Master 3 mouse and WB7022 4K webcam
- DELL XPS 15 9500
- DELL WD19TB
- DELL 4K WB7022 webcam
- Logitech MX Master 3 keyboard
- Logitech 915 TKL keyboard
Everything had been working fine until one fine day, my mouse started stuttering. Every time I take the webcam out of the dock, the mouse works perfectly fine, the moment I put the webcam back in the dock, the mouse starts to stutter. It didn't matter if the webcam was really active; as long as both were hooked in the dock, stuttering started.
I found my webcam was super hot. I updated the dock firmware to the latest, updated the driver for the webcam to the latest, updated BIOS to the latest, installed the latest version of 'Logitech Options software for controlling the mouse' and updated the graphic driver to the latest (GTX 1650 Ti), but the stuttering didn't stop.
I finally moved the webcam from the dock directly to the laptop (via a small type-C hub) and left the mouse in the doc. Everything worked.
Also, just for the kicks, I moved the webcam back into the dock but moved the mouse from the dock to the laptop (via the same type-C hub), and everything still worked.
So, the moral of the story is that my docking station has stopped playing nice when my webcam and mouse are both hooked into it.
Is it a DELL docking station problem? Is it a DELL webcam problem? Is it a Logitech MX Master 3 problem? Not sure, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced it yet.

Regarding usb transmitter it's a well known issue in such cases and even with wifi
USB 3.0* Radio Frequency Interference Impact on 2.4 GHz Wireless Devices
For example, I have wd19 dock in front of me connected to the laptop and MX usb dongle inserted into front USB dock port, works 99% fine. Once I insert this dongle into back side port, it works 60-80% of the time and freezing.
Especially people who has usb wifi adapter likes to complain why internet is so slow!! ahahah
But in your case, yeah smth might be wrong with compatibility

How long had everything been working fine prior to the problem? When did you purchase the dock and when did the problem start?

Around 1 and half years with the dock and the mouse, and around 6 months with the webcam. All worked until last week or two.

So then you have to try and think what changed from when it was working to now (when it was not working)? Was there something you did to the system etc?

Thank you, I did think about it before posting the message, but I'm not sure it's because of I did something. It might be related to some Windows updates. Who knows?
I wasn't really looking for any solution cuz I found a workaround. I was more interested in knowing if other people also were affected, or maybe someone at Dell knows something internally.
I am sure it's related to some driver. I also noticed when I do it right click on My Windows desktop and click refresh it takes a bit longer to refresh the screen then it used to. I mean it's just like a second more. I did research for that issue and found it's usually happens because of a display driver issue.
Anyway since I upgraded all drivers to their latest version including the BIOS I'm not sure what more I can do unless the problem is widespread. I can reach out to Dell and ask them for a replacement for the camera cuz it gets really hot, but I'm sure they're going to ask me tons of questions and will have me run a series of tests, which I'm 100% sure will reveal nothing. It's not Amazon so since things are still working I would rather not bother. I really appreciate your time looking into it. And I will keep on trying something and if I get any success I will come back and update here.
Much appreciated again.

@demonru - I think you have caught the cause to my problem.
Earlier, my mouse dongle and webcam were on different sides of the dock. The only problem was my webcam used to get too hot and freeze once or twice a day during heavy use. So I had to unplug/replug it. Since it was in the front of the dock (and the dock's front is actually toward the wall, and the back is towards me - don't ask why and how), it was difficult to reach out and unplug the webcam and replug it.
So, what I did was I moved the location of the webcam from front to back. Now both the mouse dongle and webcam are in the back, and this caused the problem, I guess.
I'm going to put the webcam to the front of the dock while leaving the mouse dongle in the back. I will report back soon.

@demonru - Bingo, confirmed. This was the cause. Since I connected the webcam and mouse on the opposite side of the dock (as they were before I moved them to the same side), things have started fine again. Who knew this could have been the cause, Huh? I should have first tried updating all drivers and firmware to fix the "webcam getting hot" issue before switching the ports.

Same problem - plug webcam into front dock - problem gone. The webcam was a logitech model as well as mouse.
