Update/Recover BIOS in laptop without internal display

I have a Dell XPS 17 (9730) Laptop. Last week the Dell SupportAssist app made some updates that seemed to have corrupted my firmware, even though it didn't say it updated my firmware.

My internal display will not come on. I can power on my computer and once Windows starts I can use my computer via an external display, I'm never able to get the internal display to work.

I'm pretty positive that the hardware is all working correctly, just that the firmware is messed up. In other words, I'm near certain the only reason the screen isn't working is because of the BIOS, but I can't fix it without the screen.

I found how to recover the BIOS on Dell laptops, but the problem is all the options require the internal display working and I can't send a signal to an external display prior to Windows starting.

Is anyone able to give me a work around? As far as I know there isn't support for an external monitor (using a dongle that is thunderbolt/USB-C to HDMI) when working with the BIOS.

Here is the support article from Dell: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000132453/how-to-recover-the-bios-on-a-dell-computer-or-tablet

I've looked around and couldn't find anything. Of course my warranty just expired 2 months

Unplug the system, remove the base cover and disconnect the main battery.  Hold the power button for 30 sec.

Reassemble the system and test again.

@ejn63 Thank you, I will try this. I won't have time for a few days but will definitely try
