Unable to locate CMOS Battery/XPS 9710
Hi, usually in Dell laptops the CMOS battery is located behind the motherboard, but the Service Manual for my XPS 17 9710 does not even mention the CMOS battery anywhere. Does anyone know its location for the XPS 9710? Thanks

The CMOS battery on a Dell XPS 9710 is located underneath the palm-rest and keyboard assembly, after removing the battery and solid-state drive thermal bracket. Specifically, you'll need to disconnect the battery cable, remove screws securing the battery and thermal bracket, and then lift the battery off the palm-rest assembly to access
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Access the battery: You'll need to first remove the bottom cover of the laptop.
Disconnect the battery: Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
Remove the battery: Remove the screws securing the battery and solid-state drive thermal bracket.
Locate the CMOS battery: Once the main battery is removed, you'll see the CMOS battery underneath it, likely on the system board.
Replace the CMOS battery: Replace the CMOS battery and reassemble the laptop following the steps in reverse.

Hi, it looks as an AI generated response, since before posting I got a similar one, as I said earler, the Service Manual makes no mention of the CMOS battery replacement procedure.
So from what you posted the CMOS battery is underneath the main battery?

Hey Perseid,
I did not find any diagram to remove the cmos battery. If you follow the manual to remove the palm-rest and keyboard assembly, after removing the battery and solid-state drive thermal bracket. Specifically, you'll need to disconnect the battery cable, remove screws securing the battery and thermal bracket, and then lift the battery off the palm-rest assembly to access. You would then see the cmos battery.

Seems to be easily accesible, in the XPS 9570 you have to unmount the battery, drives, fans, wifi card, heat sink and motherboard!

Hi Prymax, yes I agree, it seems that these so called Dell Reps just copy/paste AI responses. Before posting I got the same info from Google AI. The fact that the Service Manual does note even mention the CMOS Battery supports your statement. Shame on you "Tech Support"

Perseid,
My Apologies on the cmos battery. After looking through the database there is no mention of a cmos battery.
