rescue files from a partiton

i need to restore my XPS from the black screen of death. before i begin, i see that i'll have the option to back up personal files. i assume this applies to the C drive. question: is there a way to rescue files from the L partition that i created? if not, is there a way to prevent it from being overwritten by the restore? thanks in advance for any feedback.

Remove the drive, mount it into an external enclosure and attach it to a working system -- you can recover the files that way.

If the system doesn't boot (which is what it sounds), you will need to remove the drive and mount it so that you can connect it to a working system.

If the system is encrypted with bitlocker, you will also need the recovery key.
