Question About Removing Sticky Palm Rest Coating – Dell XPS 15 7590

Hello,
I own a Dell XPS 15 7590 and the soft-touch coating on the palm rest has become sticky over time.

I would like to ask:
Is it safe to remove the degraded soft-touch layer using 99.9% isopropyl alcohol, by gently scrubbing the surface?

Will this pose any health or material safety risk (e.g. fiber exposure or damage to the underlying carbon fiber composite)?

Thank you in advance for your clarification.

There's no way to know -- if you're worried about it, a palmrest replacement is inexpensive.

I successfully cleaned both my M6700 laptop palmrests which were really sticky.....

It takes about 2 hours to do per laptop and a LOT of elbow grease. (I actually did it over 2 days per laptop to give my arms\fingers a rest lol)

You need to use a lint free cloth (I used an old 100% cotton close weaved shirt - If you don't do this you just end up with a furry and still sticky palm rest). Wet the cloth in 99.9% isopropyl alcohol, and using your fingers really rub it hard on the palmrest. The gunge will start to soften. Every so often use another lint free cloth with white spirit and use that to 'pick up' the gunge to remove it off the plastic  (if you don't do this you end up just spreading the gunge around). After about an hour you will have cleaned on half of the palm rest. NOTE once you get 85% of the gunge off use the white spirit sparingly and softly otherwise the paint finish on the plastic will start to come off. Also - I removed the Dell \ Intel inside labels off the palmrest first as well (but under them the sticky residue is impossible to remove). After 6 months my palm rests still look factory fresh and are totally non sticky. Oh and another note - on the M6700 palmrests are two tiny rubber bump stops for the laptop lid. These rubber stops get fragile and may break off if you rub the cloth hard over them. I hope this helps everyone with orrible sticky palm rests.
