Performance issues, suspecting hardware issue.
XPS 15 9530
Hi people, Im having this really frustrating issue with my DELL XPS 15 laptop, recently, the performance of this laptop has been fluctuating too much, its concerning and I no longer have warranty on this laptop as it expired about 3 months ago. When im playing games, it should be running at 200-300 fps stable. However, ive been playing at around 100 now and sometimes drops to 20. I know this isnt a software problem as I have been doing everything that i know and have found to try fix this problem. Here are the benchmarks of when I am idle and while im playing games, for the first few minutes of me playing a game, my FPS is fine, but then 2 minutes later, the fps is fluctuating more than ever, dropping to an unplayable 20 to 30 fps

Sounds like the system is throttling. Has the system had internal cleaning and maintenance?

@ejn63
The system runs at a stable 60 degrees, GPU may raise to 70 if im playing a more intensive game. It is not thermal throttling from what i can tell and also, there is another problem with this laptop where if I tap or press down on a certain part of this keyboard, the computer shows a static screen then freezes/crashes which is why im convinced this is a hardware issue. The motherboard has already been replaced once with an issue where the GPU wasnt showing and working. This laptop cost me a hefty amount and im not sure why a 2000 pound laptop would have this problem

@ejn63 as for maintenance, it had been cleaned when they serviced it a year ago to replace the motherboard

It sounds like the repair is the issue. Assuming the system is still under warranty, call to arrange another service -- if a cable is loose (which the description fits) it's also entirely possible the repairer did not properly apply new heatsink pads.

@ejn63 Unfortunately, this device is out of warranty which is why im a little skeptical to arrange a service as i heard its quite costly, this problem only began happening around start of December last year and my warranty expired during the middle of November, I assumed then that there wasnt anything wrong as it hadn't been a large issue for me then. Do you have an idea on how much it would cost to get fixed from dell if the supposed issue was what you suggested? Many thanks for the time

You'd be better off having the system looked at by a good local repair shop that charges by the hour rather than by the job. It may be as simple as having the cable connections and the heatsink pads checked and replaced -- in which case the cost should be no more than whatever an hour's labor costs wherever you're located.
It does not sound like a major repair (mainboard replacement) is needed. That's why having the system looked at by a reputable shop is the first step.

@ejn63 Hi, Been a while, haven't had the time to take it to a repair shop yet but i've just noticed this from my nividia gpu panel and this from my task manager whilst playing games, is this normal and does it indicate anything? Still having the same issues as before. Thanks
