NoCamerasAreAttached Error Message - XPS 16

XPS 16 9640

XPS 16 9640

XPS 16 about 8 months old. Was working fine and then couldn't find the internal camera one day. The camera showed back up a few days later. Happened again last week and still gives the error: 'NoCamerasAreAttached'.

Dell support has worked on it for an extended amount of time on 2 occasions. Eventually swore it must be a hardware issue and had me take it into a shop. The shop worked on it for hours and said there are no software or hardware issues. They have no resolution... like, "that's too bad, you just don't have an internal camera any more." The camera is essential for my work meetings. Any ideas?

Also have issues with the laptop refusing to start if it's been sleeping for an extended time while plugged in. I found some discussion threads around that issue that I'm going to try but appreciate any input here as well (Dell support was also no help with that issue).

Click here for information resolving Webcam issues with your laptop.

You can also click here for resolving issues when your laptop does not start from sleeping.

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.  Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.

All of that has already been tried. Dell support was unable to resolve either issue.

The system is under warranty - it's not clear why you "took it to a shop" but you should arrange a warranty repair with Dell.

I pursued a warranty repair (it is covered) but they can't don't know what to repair and have exhausted the testing options. I suggested they just replace the laptop if they can't repair it and they made it sound like that wasn't an option. Was hoping someone here would have another idea of what to have them check, what the issue could be, how to push for a replacement, etc.

The question that remains is, have you sent the system for evaluation and repair (or scheduled an onsite repair if you have an upgraded onsite warranty)?

We did a scheduled onsite repair (was covered). I have the upgraded warranty. But they eventually gave it back unresolved. They couldn't find anything to fix and had no other ideas for the camera (or for the issues with restarting after sleep mode).

What did they replace?

And what does "couldn't find the internal camera" mean?  All software, specific application, etc?

Do you have one (or multiple) video conferencing applications installed (and if so, does the camera work on a clean install without them)?
