Laptop Battery Replacement - not working
Hello,
Issue summary: Replaced XPS laptop battery doesnt work. There are conflicting reports - Diagnostics says all is well, still there are warnings, and also doesn't charge.
There are many topics with same text, this one is after trying out of most of them, and they havent worked for me. My Dell laptop is Dell XPS 13 - 9333
Battery : Battery type: Li-ion
Voltage: 7.4V
Capacity: 55Wh
Part Number: C4K9V
Reason for Changing battery: Current battery was discharging too soon, and was slightly bulged, so replacing it now with another battery.
Following "not in stock" comment from Dell, purchased couple of batteries from Online (reputed) Vendors but these batteries don't seem to charge.
As per the Dell Sales team & Dell Technical team, Dell doesn't have this battery in stock, or an ETA for when OEM batteries would be in stock. They suggested to go market and get others.
Hence, purchased couple of Dell Batteries, and they are not charging (as explained below). Dell technical team was patient to help me troubleshoot, but didnt know what the next steps were, as we did agree that these replaced batteries should work.
Got battery with the same part number as original - from at least 2 vendors, and both vendors are quite confident that it works, though it doesnt. Both batteries behave the same way, which makes me think, it might be something else, hence this ticket here.
Behaviour after fixing New battery:
- In BIOS - the battery is shown as - "Non-Supported Battery". [Screenshot attached. ]
- On restart - shows the message - F1 to continue, F2 to go to setup
- Clicked on F2 to proceed. Once windows loads, it recognises the battery, i.e the battery icon is shown in task bar - but doesn't charge (doesn't go above 0%) even after few hours.
- Running Diagnostics - F12 on Dell screen on startup > diagnostics - the battery is shown as healthy (i.e. it recognises the battery), and there are no errors (or error codes), it shows battery as healthy. [Screenshot attached. ]
Hence this post here.
Tried out -
- On and off play, i.e. switch off, remove batteries, power button switch on (drain any power, if any), plugin and restart clean, switch off, plug battery back, start again - few different combinations of this. None of them works
- Uninstalled and reinstalled Battery driver. i.e. Device manager > ACPI battery driver > Uninstall > restart laptop > Driver comes back under Device Manager > Healthy - i.e. no errors on Windows Logs, just (i)nfo
- I think, there is a step missing here, as the OS is able to identify the battery.
- Under F12 > Diagnostics > System Health - it mentions - "Primary Battery charging state" = "idle" (refer screenshot), while everything else seems good - which I believe means that, the battery itself is healthy, is recognized by the laptop, but for some reason the charge is not flowing into battery. The fact that the power adapter is fully working and healthy as well, doesn't help.
Any advice from experts in this forums here please?
Best Regards
DK

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them. Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.
