Is this normal on a new XPS 13 9345?

I just got a new Dell XPS 13 9345 today. I noticed that when it's fully closed, the top and bottom parts come apart quite easily. I called Dell and they said it's normal and meant to protect the keyboard from damage, which makes no sense. But they also said I can return it if I want to.

Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes,  it is normal for the system to open easily. It is working as designed.

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them.  Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. If already out of warranty, click here for the Dell out of warranty offering.

@DELL-Jesse L If that's true, then the design is truly awful.  Any laptop that can accidentally open SO EASILY is simply ridiculous.  It's very possible that it will open in my backpack and if so, allow particles to come in that can scratch the screen.

I have laptops that are less than half this price which are also easy to open but stay closed in whatever position you hold it.  Terrible, terrible design choice and one that ensures I'll never buy another Dell product again.  Not with so many other choices out there.
