IR Emitters stay On – How to Disable on XPS 14

I recently got a Dell XPS 14 (9440), and I’ve noticed that the IR emitters (the little red glow used for Windows Hello) stay on all the time, even when the lid is closed.

I’ve already checked my Windows Hello settings and even disabled face recognition, but the emitter still lights up.

It looks like those emitters always turn on when the laptop is on.

I’d like to completely turn it off when I’m not using it.

Has anyone else run into this?

  • Is there a setting in BIOS to disable the IR camera or emitter?

  • Can it be done via Device Manager without affecting the regular webcam?

  • Or is this just normal background behavior for the IR hardware?

Any advice or steps would be appreciated — I’m just trying to make sure it’s not a hardware fault or unnecessary power drain.
