Intermittant monitor loss of XPS 15 9530 through Dell Dock (WD22TB4/WD19TB)
My work laptop is a XPS 15 9530 and my company's office has a fleet of Dell docks (WD22TB4/WD19TB) to connect at different desks. Our main work desks are equipped with dual 4k monitors and our breakout rooms usually have single TV/projectors accessible through another Dell dock.
On reconnecting to my main desk after using a different dock, both USB C ports on the left of the machine fail to detect the dual 4K monitors. It will charge and detect the connected keyboard though. The USB C on the right will detect the monitors, but cannot stream data fast enough for 4k 60Hz refresh and must be configured to use lower 1080p settings or a slower refresh leading to a noticeable lag in mouse cursor movement. Restarting the computer resolves the issue, but is slow and disruptive.
Things to note:
- All computers/docks have latest firmware. I just did an update on all systems and the behaviour is still present
- Forcing an update of NVIDIA GeForce driver did not resolve the issue https://www.reddit.com/r/DellXPS/comments/10ofgni/external_monitor_connected_to_a_dell_docking/
- Behaviour was first noticed in summer 2025 after doing a BIOS upgrade to XPS
- Several colleagues have commented that they are also noticing this issue
Any suggestions?
