Help! OneDrive has taken over my laptop!
It feels like OneDrive has taken over my laptop. I started getting messages about OneDrive being full. Then a red circles with X in the middle of it appeared with each greyed out photos throughout File Explorer which is very disconcerting. A attached screenshot of what it looks like. I did a search and it came up in a folder called OneDrive. All this started a couple weeks ago.
I thought OneDrive was cloud storage. So is the OneDrive folder on some distant server, or actually on my PC? I do not remember signing up for this. How do I get rid of this and get my XPS laptop back to normal?

Open the cloud (onedrive) icon from the system tray -- is your OneDrive in fact full?
Depending on the type of OneDrive you have, the limit could be as little as 100G -- if it is and you have a large number of photographs there, it could easily fill up.
Also check your C: drive -- is it full?

@ejn63 OneDrive says it is well over full. As for my SSD drive it's only a 1/4th full. I went into Programs and Features and uninstalled OneDrive. End of problem, my files, especially photos are back to normal. I mainly wanted to know why that happened in the first place so it don't again. It messed up my photography work with Photoshop CS6.

What likely happened is that the system was set (probably from installing an app or update from MS) to back up to your One Drive. It can slip by without notice.

Uninstalling OneDrivewill probably make sure that won't happen again. Should I do that on my phone as well?
I don't recall installing OneDrive in the first place, so any idea how it got on my computer. I recall when I got my Samsung S23 Ultra 2 years ago, it did some installing things to my laptop. And when I deleted photos on the phone, they would still be one there in a different folder. I don't like it when a program takes over the phone or laptop.
