Hangs overnight shows 8 white blinks one ochre blink

XPS 16 laptop hung overnight (black screen). Keyboard led blinks continuously, 8 times white, one ochre. Laptop doesn't respond to pressing any key or short pressing power button.

Had to long press power button for it to show blue screen asking for Bitlocker key. Bypassed it and press button to shutdown. After restart, everything works fine.

This have happened two nights in a row, after a scheduled Dell driver update.

Was there a firmware (used to be called BIOS) update installed?

First thing to try:  unplug the system and remove the base cover.  Disconnect the battery from the mainboard and hold the power button for 30 sec.

Reassemble and see if the system will then power up.

Well I will suggest you to try the following:

  • Check the Recent Dell Updates
  • Update BIOS and Drivers Manually
  • Disable Modern Standby
  • Run Dell ePSA Diagnostics
