[FIXED] Dell XPS 17 9710 Black Screen After BIOS Update – No BIOS Access, No Display, No External Monitor | Dell Logo

[FIXED] Dell XPS Black Screen After BIOS Update – No BIOS Access, No Display, No External Monitor

Issue Summary

After a BIOS update on my Dell XPS 9710, the laptop booted into a black screen with no BIOS access, no external display output, and no recovery options working. I tried everything – BIOS recovery (Ctrl + Esc), bootable USB BIOS flash, F2/F12 access, RTC reset – nothing worked.

However, after a lot of troubleshooting, I found a working solution! If you're facing the same issue, this might help you recover your laptop.

Symptoms:

  • Dell logo appears briefly, then screen goes black.

  • F2 (BIOS) / F12 (Boot Menu) do not work.

  • Ctrl + Esc (BIOS recovery) does not work.

  • External monitor does not receive a signal.

  • Laptop appears bricked, but Windows might still be booting (listen for startup sound).

Solution That Worked for Me

Step 1: Check if Windows is Booting

  • If your laptop makes the Windows startup sound or USB plug-in sounds, Windows is running but display is unavailable.

  • This means you can access the system remotely!

Step 2: Prepare Remote Access from Another PC

  1. Remove the SSD from the Dell XPS and install it in another laptop.

  2. Boot into Windows on the second laptop.

  3. Install AnyDesk, enable unattended access, and set a password.

  4. Connect to WiFi and set it to auto-connect on startup.

Step 3: Reinstall SSD & Connect Remotely

  1. Put the SSD back into the Dell XPS and power it on.

  2. Listen for the Windows startup sound to confirm it booted.

  3. Use AnyDesk from another PC to remotely access the system.

  4. Now you can see and control the laptop!

Step 4: Reset BIOS Settings from Windows

  1. Download & install Dell Command | Configure (DCC).

  2. Open PowerShell (Admin) and run:

    cctk.exe --RestoreBIOSSettings=FactoryDefault
  3. Restart the laptop.

Final Result:

After restarting, the display was restored, and everything worked fine! 🎉

Conclusion

If your Dell XPS screen goes black after a BIOS update, try this before assuming it's bricked:
Confirm Windows is running (listen for sounds).
Use AnyDesk to access the system remotely.
Reset BIOS settings using Dell Command | Configure.

I hope this helps others who are struggling with the same issue. Dell, if you're reading this, please consider improving recovery options for users facing black screen issues after BIOS updates!
