Dell XPS 9710 Power Throttle at 90% Batterie

Hello,

I'm experiencing an issue with my Dell XPS 17 9710. During demanding tasks, even while plugged in, the battery slowly drains. Once the battery level hits around 90%, the laptop begins to power throttle, dropping from 130W to 100W, which leads to significant performance loss.

Interestingly, if I unplug and then plug the laptop back in, the power limit returns to 130W—until the battery reaches about 80%, at which point it drops back to 100W again.

Is there any way to prevent the laptop from throttling power while it's connected to the charger?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your quick response!

From what I’ve read, I understand that the battery drains under heavy load due to the hybrid power mode as you pointed out. Limiting total system power to preserve battery health makes sense, but throttling so aggressively at 90% battery seems a bit odd.

What’s more, the system still boosts back to 130W between 90% and 80% if I briefly unplug and reconnect the power adapter, which seems inconsistent in regards to battery protection.

Do you have any recommendations on how to prevent the system from throttling power at every 10% battery interval?

Thanks!
