Dell XPS 9530 secondary hard drive disappeared
XPS 15 9530
I have added a secondary hard drive to my XPS, a 1 tb Samsung 990 evo plus, in the open slot and additionally added the heatsink. I installed it with no problems and once in Windows was able to format the drive and started saving data to the drive. Then, randomly, one day it disappeared from Windows. I checked the BIOS and it was recognized there were not showing any errors. I did some research and people suggested switching from RAID to AHCI, however, that was unsuccessful. People suggested updating the drivers but when trying to install the drivers, it doesn't see the drive so it is unable to update them. Additionally, I checked the device manager, and it was not in there in some obscure category. Per the dell hardware diagnostic, the NVMe controller chip has failed. This leads me to believe that this is the cause of failure. I am out of warranty, so I presume a motherboard replacement would have to be out of pocket. I am not sure what else to try at this point. If anyone has any ideas for a possible fix that would be greatly appreciated.
