Dell XPS 9500 – Black screen when plugging charger, charging issues

Hey everyone,

I’m having a strange issue with my Dell XPS 9500 and could use some advice.

Originally, my laptop was crashing a lot. After some research, I disabled C-state in the BIOS, and that mostly fixed the crashing. But after that, new problems started:

  • Whenever I plug in the charger, the screen goes black for about 3 seconds.

  • It did randomly crash again once even with C-state disabled, and after that crash the laptop would not charge unless it was fully shut down.

Additional details:

  • If I re-enable and then disable C-state, charging works again (with the black screen issue), but once the laptop crashes, it goes back to not charging.

  • I ran full Dell diagnostics (F12 at boot), and everything came back clean.

  • I’ve updated BIOS and Wi-Fi drivers.

  • My charger cable is slightly bent at a few spots, so I’m wondering if that could be the culprit.

Has anyone run into this kind of power/charging behavior with the XPS series? Do you think this is more likely the charger, the DC jack, or something on the motherboard?

Any ideas or workarounds would be really appreciated!
