Dell XPS 15 7590 – Touchpad not working properly on Windows 11

Hi everyone,

I'm having a frustrating issue with the built-in touchpad on my Dell XPS 15 7590 running Windows 11. Recently, the touchpad has become extremely slow and unresponsive, and all multi-finger gestures have stopped working — for example, I can no longer scroll with two fingers or use pinch-to-zoom. When I go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad, I only see a single option: “More touchpad settings.” The usual gesture and sensitivity settings are completely missing.

The issue seemed to appear randomly. At one point, after restarting the laptop, the touchpad worked again temporarily, but after the next reboot, the problem came back. I’ve already tried updating the drivers through Device Manager, uninstalling the touchpad device and letting Windows reinstall it after a reboot, but nothing changes. I also checked the BIOS, but couldn’t find any settings related to the touchpad mode (like switching between "Basic" and "Advanced").

Interestingly, my external mouse (a Logitech G502) works perfectly, so this issue seems to be specific to the built-in touchpad hardware or its driver. It feels like the system is no longer recognizing the touchpad as a Precision Touchpad, which might explain why the Windows gesture settings are missing altogether.

At this point, I’m not sure if this is a driver problem, a Windows 11 compatibility issue, or something else entirely. Has anyone else run into the same problem with this model? I’d really appreciate any advice, suggestions, or working drivers that could help restore proper gesture support and normal responsiveness.

Thanks in advance!

Just a thought but if your battery is going bad and starting to swell it can cause strange touchpad behaviour.
