Dell xps 15 7590 no input/output sound decices

XPS 15 7590

XPS 15 7590

Hi community. Well, as the topic suggests, no sound devices found. I got the laptop as a hand-me-down and the previous owner said the sound is missing for years. Speakers and 3.5mm jack not working but if you plug in headphones via type-c it works. I tried using a multimeter before to test the speakers and they are working (and are plugged in, of course). Reinstalled windows 10 x64, installed all updates and drivers. Tried switching intel smart audio driver to realtek high definition and it also didn't help. MaxxAudio said my audio drivers are outdated but I cant find any newer ones anywhere. In bios sound is turned on, audio services in windows are working and I literally tried everything I could find on the net. I noticed some similar issues from different topics but nothing after 2022 and no new solutions of course. Bios is just one version below current newest, 1.27 iirc. Can anyone suggest anything else to try? Thanks in advance.

I have had some issues on my XPS 15 9570 suggesting the hardware may be at fault to some extent.

I use bluetooth and my cheap earbuds are choppy with the old AC Wifi card so I am awaiting a new AX210 card to see if that has any improvement on audio. The Wifi card still can perk up network speeds so it has some other advantages.

Might find some wired junk and see how that works but not much available in the market anymore.

Hello. I mean, sure, but problem is there are no sound input/output devices listed. I did not test if the sound is present via Bluetooth since I've got no bt headphones (never liked those). The speakers are working (tested with multimeter) and since type-c headphones from samsung work it means the sound chip is alive but it refuses to work with those drivers. I tried deleting, reinstalling, reinstalling windows, manually changing SST to hd audio but nothing works. Tried disabling sounds in bios, boot, reboot, enable - also didn't help. Checked the daughter audio board visually and for short circuits, seems clean. I'm 90% sure it's software related but how to fix it, now that's a hurdle.

Okay, so I tried running an ubuntu to see if it changes anything. Did a clean install but got dummy audio device. After doing some commands and changing config to generic it displayed HDMI Audio device, obviously without any sound on speakers or 3.5mm. After that I tried reinstalling a fresh win10. Soooo, now I actually get an HD audio device in device manager (which is indeed seen as driver for hdmi). After connecting the USB-C headphones I can see the hdmi output device in disabled devices but no speakers (even disabled). Nothing seems to be working, not the dell audio drivers nor realtek universal drivers. Maxxpro still refuses to work with original dell drivers saying the audio driver being outdated. Dell???
