Dell XPS 15 7590 - Is is possible to add a second SSD hard-drive?
I have a Dell XPS 15 7590 and I have two questions adding a second SSD hard-drive.
1. Is this even possible and/or supported by Dell?
I assume this can be done as the official service manuals reference a second 2.5" hard-drive. I also see from this previous post (https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-15-7590-possible-to-add-an-additional-SSD/m-p/7387494) that I will need to purchase the smaller, half-width battery in order to make room for the second drive
2. Assuming that I can add a second SSD hard-drive, where can I find what additional parts I will need to purchase?
I know I will need a smaller, half width battery (and a new 2.5" SSD), but is there anything else? Judging by the service manual, it looks like I'll also need a hard-drive cage and a hard-drive cable (and possibly some additional M2x4 mounting screws). The "official" parts and accessories page for the XPS 15 7590 (https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/pfydresults/260314?categoryId=2999) does not appear to list any of those items apart from the half-length battery.

Cable, bracket and screws:

Bear in mind that you'll be reducing the battery runtime by a factor of 2 -- and with some configurations (particularly those with a QHD screen), the system may not run at all with the smaller battery -- and certainly won't run for long between charges.

If your screen is FHD, it can run on a 3-cell battery. Any resolution above that needs the 6 cell.

Oh dear. Looks like this is a non-starter then. System configuration says the screen is UHD, so it definitely exceeds the limit.
I am a bit puzzled and concerned though that the official parts page for this system lists the 3 cell half-length battery as "Compatible" with the XPS 15 7590 with no warning footnote or explanation that laptop configurations with screen resolutions >FHD will not boot with the smaller capacity battery.

Ah. Thanks for the information. So I guess in answer to my questions:
1. Yes it is possible
2. Amazon sells reasonably decent 3rd party bits 'n bobs for this

Oh.
I knew battery performance would take an obvious hit, but I was not aware that there is a possibility the system may not even boot with a half-length battery.
Is there a way to tell if my particular hardware configuration would be affected?

I guess I will have to explore options then. Thank you for your time!

I can only tell you that if you search through the forums, others have tried the battery downgrade and failed -- it's OK to replace a 3-cell battery with a 6-cell, but the reverse has failed in the past, particularly with power hungry systems (besides the screen itself, models with the UHD display are also commonly equipped with more power-hungry i7 CPUs and faster GPUs).
