Dell XPS 13 9340 Ubuntu Wifi drops/crashes (2024)
Recently purchased Dell XPS 13 9340 with Ubuntu 22.04.
I have found the wifi crashes periodically, every hour or so, such that in GUI 'no wireless adapter is found'. I have to restart the machine to regain connection. My suspicion is that it is somehow linked to power management, I have tried everything I've seen online to disable wireless power management for both iwlwifi and iwlmvm drivers but for whatever reason it does seem to reactivate which correlates strongly with the wifi crashing though not always.
iw dev wlp114s0f0 get power_savePower save: off#notice a crashiw dev wlp114s0f0 get power_savePower save: on
My specs:
OS: Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS x86_64Host: XPS 13 9340Kernel: 6.5.0-1020-oem
Has anyone experienced a simliar issue? Many thanks.

Final update, the issue returned, in the end it was a hardware issue, whereby if you tapped the laptop firmly on lap or on any surface, all networks would drop, bluetooth would recover, but wifi did not. New motherboard did not resolve the issue so am assuming it was something to do with antennae connection. Laptop was replaced, issue solved.

Understanding and Resolving Dell XPS Wi-Fi Issues
It's frustrating when your Wi-Fi connection keeps dropping, especially when it seems linked to power management. Here are some potential solutions to try, building upon your suspicion and the common solutions found online:
1. Deep Dive into Power Management Settings:
2. Update Drivers and BIOS:
3. Check for Interference:
4. Network Adapter Troubleshooter:
5. Clean Driver Reinstall:
6. Consider Hardware Issues:
If the above solutions don't work, there might be a hardware issue with your Wi-Fi adapter. Contact Dell support for further assistance or consider replacing the adapter.
Additional Tips:
By following these steps and carefully considering your specific XPS model and Wi-Fi adapter, you should be able to resolve the Wi-Fi connectivity issue.

I resolved the issue by using Dell Recovery -> Restore System. My suspicion is that upon delivery I immediately updated the PC software in Software Center which upgraded the kernel from 6.5 oem to 6.8 which messed up the drivers. I did try manually downgrading back to 6.5 oem from 6.8 and removing it but for whatever reason this was not sufficient.
I would be interested to know how other are able to take regular updates, security etc, and maintain the stability of their XPS 13 9340 Ubuntu 22.04. Thanks.
