Dell XPS 13 9315 Camera not Working

XPS 13 9315 2-in-1

XPS 13 9315 2-in-1

The built-in camera on my device is not working. I have updated all drivers/BIOS/reinstalled drivers and still no luck. When trying to troubleshoot the problem specifically, the camera device isn't picked up on the hardware list to scan. When a full hardware scan is run through support assist, the device passes supposedly without fault. Seems like this issue has happened on a few other devices on this forum, but no fix yet.

Frustrating as this is on a replacement device dell sent to me as previously my speakers broke (within warranty). Having only had this device for 3 months and finding out the camera doesn’t work, I’ve discovered that there is no warranty given for replacement devices from Dell (now no warranty regardless of a new device in January).

Any help fixing the camera would be much appreciated! If not, I am leaning towards buying an external camera instead of having to pay for a Dell software technician (£48) and then potentially another replacement device/parts.

yes buying an external camera would solve the issue in less than 30$ because for this model entire LCD assembly will have to be replaced.

Some XPS 13s have seen the issue last year. Dell included a batch file which removes the faulty driver in the their driver file. I hope you have installed below driver.

reinstall OS or use a Linux live USB prior making any decisions

Is there a camera entry in the device manager?

Has the camera ever worked since you received the system?  If yes, have you made any changes to the system (particularly installing any conferencing software such as Zoom, Webex, etc.) since then?  If you have, try removing the software and see if that restores the camera function.

The warranty on replacement hardware is the remainder of the system warranty or 90 days, whichever is longer.

@ejn63 Hi, I'm sorry for taking so long getting back to you.

Yes there is a camera entry. Intel(R) AVStream Camera. The device status says it is working properly, however it is still coming up with the same error.

I don't think I had ever tried to use the camera until I came across the problem when I made this post. As it was a refurbished device I received I should have checked it all when I received it but post warranty, it feels there is little I can do. I tried installing the driver XPS_Man suggested but still no luck.

@XPS_Man Hi, sorry for taking to long to get back to you also.

I installed the driver you suggested but the camera is still not working. I entered my service tag and it came back saying that the download was not compatible with my device.

Would you have any other suggestions of how I could fix this issue?

I have the exact same problem...in case this is helpful context, it started for me immediately after a BIOS update (which isn't reversible).

@EDINGTONES001

Use a Live USB (UBUNTU)

this will help in identifying whether it's a windows issue.

If not reinstall OS

I have a Dell XPS 9320 where I can not get my webcam to work (crashes to blue screen whenever the integrated camera is used). I took my laptop to a repair center. They booted up the laptop using a hard drive containing Windows 11 and verified that the webcam works. They said that my problem is software and not hardware.

Has any1 found a fix to this issue? I tried the above mentioned steps but the camera is still not working.

I have 3 of this model Dells ( hole family got 1 ) and we all have the same issue with the camera after a windows update.

I haven't use the camera in a while and recently need it for a conference call. Soon I realised that the integrated camera stopped working in all apps. Tried to fix it with the driver (attached below) suggested by Dell but the issue remains. It seems that this problem is happening in XPS lines since 2023 and there is no solution for it. Please kindly advice on how should we - Dell customers - who had paid great amount of money for the premium product but have to face this nonsense problem.

I'm having the same issue with Dell XPS 13 - 9345 snapdragon model. Camera works sometimes and it shows similar error other times and it gets sorted out sometimes upon restart or by reinstalling the graphics driver and restarting of the machine.

Can someone from Dell actually read this and try to provide a solution.

My XPS 13 9305 has the same problem. However, the webcam works when the screen is in a specific range of angles. So I double it might be a hardware problem.

I have the same problem and has happened twice to me now. I'm hoping to go to the Dell store next month in London. I will see what they say and provide an update here. For an immediate solution I would recommend buying a camera that can be attached by USB.

Brand new Dell XPS, just got it last week. Set up and all was fine for a few days. Now it thinks I have no cameras. Not the built in camera, not the external Logitech.  The built in camera still works to verify it's me when I log in or use saved passwords. Help! $2,500 later and I am pissed!

Unfortunately, Dell does not supply a standalone driver, Instead, the driver is derived from microsoft security and defender. whenever I remove these to make a custom Iso image, the camera stops working, yet other external cameras do work. If only Dell would supply a standalone driver

@ejn63 For me, I did the diagnostic thing, and it worked fine. Both the camera driver and Intel Visual Sensing were flagged with triangles, and later on, after the diagnostic, it fixed everything. You can do it by

Initiating ePSA run a custom Test on the integrated webcam

1. Shutdown the computer

2. Press and hold the Fn key and then press the power button. or Power on the system and keep tapping the <F12> key then choose Diagnostics

3. press ESC on the EPSA quick test

4. click on the Advanced Test on the bottom left

5. Under Advance test—choose the webcam device only

6. Click on the “through test” checkbox and then click on run test.

After that give it a restart by exiting the Dignostic mode.
