Dell support wants to give me a seizure
I sent my laptop in for repairs after the display became completely non-functional for no discernable reason with an error code being flashed using the caps lock key, no external damage or drops. I never opened it up myself, never gave it to any third party repair service. The repair quote included the cost of the screen and labor. Sure. They didn't make it clear at all that they were going to completely wipe my drive and reinstall windows completely unnecessarily, as it was pretty clear it was a hardware problem.
Now, less than 5 minutes after opening up the box they sent back and the laptop display is flashing in a seizure inducing way. Video: https://youtu.be/j9TmJRV5BEE (hopefully this goes without saying, but seizure warning). My job has me working with a good number of people with photosensitive epilepsy, so this could have very well done real harm. "All diagnostics and repairs are performed by Dell certified technicians using only Dell OEM parts. All systems go through a thorough quality check before being returned," according to the service request details. Looks like the thorough quality check doesn't involve actually trying to use the device.
Dell, if you can't properly repair the device, please don't send it back to the paying customer. I'd like my money back, and I'd like a proper replacement for the computer I clearly should not be using for the sake of my own health and the health of those around me.
