brand new laptot doesn't turn on

Good morning to everybody.

Yesterday evening i've unpacked my brand new XPS 9520 but...it doesn't turn on. No life signs of any kind, pushing the power button makes nothing.

I thought that maybe the battery was empty, so i let it charged all the night...but actually the battery led on the laptop was always blank.

It looks like the laptop it's totally dead.

Am I missing something? Or is it damaged and i need to make a return?

thanks for the answers. I managed pressing the power button for almost a minute without the power cable plugged in. Once I plugged in the cable and pushed again the power button the laptop finally turned on.

Is there a light on the adapter and if so does it go off when plugged into the laptop? Considering that this is a brand new system, call Dell tech support as you have 30 days to request a refund or a replacement.

Welcome to the Dell Community  @albv 

First try the LCD-BIST.

Hold down the "D" key, push the power button, release the power button, wait 2-3 seconds and release the "D" key

The laptop should go through an LCD test of solid White, Red, Green, Blue and Black 2 or 3 times.

After completion it should try to automatically boot 2 or 3 times.

Post your results.

Second try the M-BIST.

  1. Press and hold both the M key on the keyboard and the power button to initiate M-BIST.
  2. With both the M key and the power button held down, the battery indicator LED may exhibit two states:
    1. OFF: No fault detected with the system board
    2. AMBER: Indicates a problem with the system board
  3. If there is a failure with the system board, the battery status LED will flash an error code.

If it does please post the code.
