Battery Underperformance with New Laptop

I recently bought this laptop (XPS 13 9345) and have used it for about a week. I saw that it had about 15-19 hours of battery life because of the X Elite Snapdragon processor in multiple online reports but have not seen the same condition while using it. I searched up a way to see if it was a hardware issue or something about the battery was not right, and found that when I ran the "powercfg /batteryreport" command, I saw that the "estimate of battery life based on all observed drains since OS install" was only 9 hours and 45 minutes (image attatched). I observed this same pattern when using it where the calculated battery percentage would always say around 7-8 hours of battery life in relation to the percentage.

Is there a chance this is a hardware issue? Is it worth returning to try to find a different computer with better battery life?

Feel free to ask to run tests if needed. Thanks!

Battery life with Windows 11 is usually dependant on a lot of factors.

As for a Snapdragon CPU, not much difference as Windows settings go

You may want to give it a few days -- battery runs usually increase with a few charge cycles.  New systems also do major updates - unless that was done on AC power, it can also skew the results.

That said, the 15-19 hours likely is with the CPU throttled as much as possible, limited use of wifi and with the screen set as dim as you can live with.  Usually a reasonable estimate of battery run is half the manufacturer or paid/compensated reviewer's numbers.

Hi,

Battery performance depends on your screen brightness and performance settings and your tasks. Try switching to optimal battery settings and power efficiency mode and you will see the change!

Please update me on your findings. If the problem persists, feel free to share additional details, and we’ll be happy to assist further.
