At what point with a Dell laptop do you need to start using the manafactures updats?

My XPS 14 9440  Is now a year old and there is ever fewer driver updates made available by Dell. I know there are very much latter Intel graphics, chip set and Wi-Fi  drivers than the ones installed and shown as downloaded at Dell.

I'v always updated the NVIDIA Graphics my self as I use a RAW processing program that is programed to uses the latest  drivers and old ones often cause problems.
