XPS 8960, wrong Date for Intel Chipset Update?
I see on Dell's support website that there is an update for my computer's Intel Chipset Device Software issued on December 2, 2024:

However, when I download and start the install, I see that the date shown on the installer is actually October 8, 2024 and not December 2, 2024.

This matters because I keep track of when I check for updated drivers. The most recent date on which I checked for drivers was November 11, 2024, so any needed drivers issued prior to November 11, 2024 have already been installed. Now I am looking for drivers issued after November 11, 2024.
Which is the correct date for this driver? Was it issued on October 8 - in which case I already installed it - or was it issued on December 2 - in which case I need to install it?

XPS 8960, correct?
Creation date doesn't necessarily correspond to Release date. The creation date might be Intel's date but It can take time before it gets released on Dell's site. So you should always go by version number, not dates.
Besides, the new one released on 2-Dec-24 is v10.1.19949.8616, A01, but last prior one listed for XPS 8960 was released on 13-Jun-23 and is 10.1.19468.8385, A23, which is clearly an older version number.
So if you checked in Nov'24, that older version number was likely already installed...
From now on, track by version number....

As @RoHe says, what Dell posts is the date it posts it...
On Intel's site, this is really the latest:
I am not advocating you should get this one and install it... but it probably would be OK. See, I bet Dell at least tested that release on a few PC's to verify there would be no problems. Dell support has a 'habit' of telling you to install Dell posted 'files' if they see you have a later one installed, at least with Display drivers.
This is what they do with Nvidia card drivers, and they are FAR behind releases as Nvidia will do many per month and they include fixes, new program support, and security fixes. The release they post is identical to the 'old' on Nvidia released.
It is not unusual to see the same on the Nvidia drivers Dell releases... older file with the older date inside but a posted release date weeks or months earlier.
I'd say the only Dell files posted that you wouldn't find newer elsewhere would be the BIOS and maybe some Dell utility updates.

Something happened here. My question was correctly answered by someone else. I gave that answer a thumbs up and marked it as the correct answer. That answer has disappeared. I am now done with this question.

Thank you. that was my answer which disappeared. I see Intel has released another chipset driver update 10.1.19867.8574 in August 24 for 100-300 series but Dell has not done any update on its 300 desktop model such as XPS 8930 or R9. Dell intel driver for those chipset is still circa 2020 10.1.18121.8164, A09. this example shows Dell update date lags behind Intel release.
I suspect Intel pushes the 600 chipset (for 8960 etc) driver update to oem internally (Dell HP Lenovo) but consumer do not get to see those right away on Intel site. thus the Dell release date lags behind original Intel push out date,
