XPS 8960, when will the updated BIOS to fix Intel Microcode 0x129 update be available?

I know Intel has released a fix over a week ago.  I see that there is a new BIOS update available as of yesterday for the XPS 8960, but I don't believe it contains the Intel microcode fix as the BIOS update is only listed as 'Recommended' and doesn't mention the microcode issue at all.  On the other hand, the BIOS update released for OptiPlex systems yesterday is marked 'Critical' and clearly mentions it fixes the voltage issue.

We’d like to inform you of a new communication regarding Industry-wide Issue with Intel Core 13th and 14th Generation i5, i7, and i9 Processors. To determine if your computer is affected, please check your service tag at Dell Support. If your system is impacted, a banner will appear indicating this.

Intel has released a microcode update that Dell has incorporated into BIOS updates for all identified models. These updates, available since August 16, 2024, on the Dell Support Website, are crucial to maintaining the stability of your processor. We highly recommend that you update your system to the latest BIOS containing this Intel microcode.

If, after updating the BIOS, your computer experiences blue screens or application crashes, please contact support by clicking the ‘Get Help Now’ button located at the bottom right corner of the page.

You can review the detailed symptoms, affected generations, processors, and additional information by checking the full communication at this link Industry-wide Issue with Intel Core 13th and 14th Generation i5, i7, and i9 Processors.

@DELL-Nat M Thank you for the answer.  If the BIOS update was released for the XPS 8960, it is not marked correctly on the drivers page.  It listed as 'Recommended' where it should be 'Critical' and the description simply says 'Improved the stability of the system.'

For other models, the BIOS update is properly marked.  For example, for the Optiplex Tower 7010, the BIOS update is marked as 'Critical' and has a description that actually identifies the problem: "Fixed the issue where a Windows error message is displayed when you are using the system. This issue occurs when the processor runs at a high voltage rate."

If the BIOS update released on 8/16 for the XPS 8960 actually fixes this issue, can the support page be corrected with the proper severity rating and description?  Otherwise, it looks like a regular BIOS update that does not yet contain the Intel microcode fix.

Thank you!

@DELL-Nat M

The link in this sentence is bad, "To determine if your computer is affected, please check your service tag at Dell Support. If your system is impacted, a banner will appear indicating this."

It returns a 404 error, "https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/xps-desktops/when-will-the-updated-bios-to-fix-intel-microcode-0x129-update-be-available-for-xps-8960-devices/www.dell.com/support", and it appears you only want the www.dell.com/support part.

@DELL-Nat M Sorry to bug you on this, but, even if the BIOS fix for the 8960 is supposedly released, since the documentation is incorrect (as noted above), from a customer's point of view, this is not resolved.  I know IT Admins for companies that are still waiting on Dell here as they don't want to use their devices without a confirmed fix for this model from Dell.  Can you help get the Drivers page for the XPS 8960 corrected with the right severity and description so customers can feel confident that the Intel microcode fix is available for this line of PCs?

@DELL-Nat M Just to illustrate what I mean:

As you can see, the normal view does not show the BIOS update at all.

@pcdullea Hi, that is correct. Version 2.9.1 contains the microcode released by Intel.

@pcdullea  CPU temp is not available in BIOS setup on XPS 8960.

You could install HWInfo64, or HWMonitor, or Speccy, (all free), etc on XPS 8960 to monitor CPU and other temps.

@RoHe Thank you...will give them a try.  My i9-13900 XPS should have enough capacity i.e. won't get bogged down running one of those temp monitors..pd.
