XPS 8960, Wake On LAN Bios option
XPS 8960
Our suite of computers running XPS 8960's require the Wake-On-LAN functionality.
Looking in the BIOS (v2.11.0), the Wake-On-LAN option is missing. I expected it to be in Power Options. Looking everywhere, we cannot find it. The service manual doesn't list it either.
Our previous suite of computers, Precision T17000 contained this option.
Has Dell removed this functionality from the BIOS? I would be surprised as it's very useful with businesses with a large computer suite.

Finally, here is the statement from DELL about modern standby implementation: https://dl.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_solutions_int/esuprt_solutions_int_solutions_resources/client-mobile-solution-resources_white-papers45_en-us.pdf
"With the increased demands of customers, and intelligence included in Client
PCs, the need to have a long sleep period but quick access to data and
resources is of paramount importance. To cater to this demand, the PC market
is moving all systems from the legacy Suspend behavior to a Modern Standby
where all devices are self-powered and provide a capability for near instant-on
functionality, as well as periodic network updates, but maintaining long battery
life while in low power.
November, 2019"
"
BIOS REQUIREMENTS
Dell configures all supported systems to be fully compliant with Modern Standby and
tests our systems and firmware to Microsoft specifications.
Dell does not allow for users to modify any Modern Standby configurations within the
BIOS setup. This includes disabling Modern Standby to utilize legacy S3 operations.

I would think 8960 bios is very similar to its immediate predecessor 8950

@redxps630 yes, it looks that way. It would be interesting to know why they removed it.
Unfortunately we only checked a couple of weeks after support expired, therefore we cannot formally request it to be re-added (without asking our authority to renew the support)
Thanks

XPS 8960 is probably considered to be more a "home" PC rather than an office PC like Optiplex or Precision workstation. So they guess they don't think home users want/need Wake on LAN.
Don't see why asking that WOL be included in a new BIOS update would depend on your support status. If they decide to add WOL to BIOS, it would be available for everyone with an XPS 8960, and BIOS updates are free...

I just got this PC and updated bios to 2.12.0 and still no option for WOL. I might have to return the pc because I use this feature very regularly...
How often do they do firmware releases?

WOL was included in 8940 and 8950 bios. no obvious reason for Dell to remove it in 8960.

Very disappointing. Doesn't make sense why they would remove that feature? Is there a way to downgrade my bios to an earlier version? It seems like maybe that feature was possibly available in earlier versions...

@DisappointedUser2 - How do you know WOL was available in prior versions of XPS 8960 BIOS?
Just because WOL is available in BIOS for XPS 8940 and XPS 8950, does not mean it was ever available in XPS 8960 BIOS. XPS 8960 uses either a 13th or 14th Gen CPU, while those other PC models use older gen CPUs.
And if you downgrade BIOS from the latest version, you'll lose the update that fixes Intel's serious power problems with 13th and 14th Gen CPUs. That could result in the instability issues and/or CPU failures which were happening before Intel issued their BIOS patch. So you probably don't want to risk downgrading, even assuming you're sure WOL was previously available.

@DisappointedUser2 - BTW: Have you actually tested to see if WOL is available, but isn't in BIOS because it can't be disabled?
Read this thread about Virtualization not being listed in XPS 8960 BIOS but it is actually available/functional...

@RoHe I don't know if WOL was available on previous versions of bios but was willing to try so I don't have to return this computer.
I also did try to wake up this computer multiple times via WOL, unfortunately the feature does not work. I was hoping it would work
To be honest this is the first computer that I've purchased that did not have this feature... Why Dell?

I just want to know if this feature was there before? If so maybe there a chance they would add it back in future bios update..
But more than likely I'm sending this computer back...

The "Wake up on Integrated LAN" in the BIOS seems to enabled by default (with no option to change it).
We tested it a couple of times, and it woke up the computer to the BIOS system password screen (then we pressed the power button to turn it off)
Currently, we can't get it to work again after a reboot of windows - Which I assume is a separate issue.

@Aptitude - The image of your BIOS screen posted above shows that Deep Sleep is enabled. For WOL to work, Deep Sleep should be disabled. So make that change.
Next, open the Ethernet controller entry in Device Manager and check its Power Management tab to see if "Allow...to wake" is enabled, and, assuming you have it, that "Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer" is also enabled.
Now click the Ethernet controller's Advanced tab in Device Manager and make sure "Energy Efficient Ethernet" is disabled and "Wake On Magic Packet" is enabled.
Reboot PC to activate the changes, and then power off normally. Confirm the Ethernet LEDs on rear of PC stay illuminated when PC is connected to the mains. If not, there may still be another setting(s) issue.
