XPS 8960, upgrade to MSI RX 580

I have bought a XPS 8960 desktop recently. I bought a MSI RX 580 recently. When I try to use output from the rx580 the dell goes into two amber and three white blinking state indicating graphics card issue.

however, after booting into windows with output from built in intel graphics card and i switch to rx580, I get display and works.

however, bios doesn’t recognise the card. What could be wrong?

RX580 is much much older than 8960

when coupling very old gpu with new modern pc, issue is expected

AMD RX is on top of this known to cause Dell bios error

try enable secure boot if it is currently disabled

also try let Win 11 install AMD driver automatically in dev mgr>display adapter when you boot into OS via integrated video.  at this point do not try manually DL AMD driver

Secure Boot
Secure Boot Enables secure boot using only validated boot software.

Default: Disabled

@redxps630

secure boot mode is already enabled by default. What else can be done?

in that case try disable secure boot and save changes.  exit bios to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the suggestion. But that did not work either. I get picture through dedicated graphics when windows boots. But unable to view bios when using dedicated graphics.

Re: unable to view bios when using dedicated graphics

when you are in Windows, go inside dev manager to view display adapter.  Is AMD RX580 driver automatically installed?

during POST, sometimes HDMI or DP from discrete graphics card has issue interacting with monitor.

it is thought to be a VBIOS issue.

as long as you are seeing a proper driver automatically installed in dev mgr>display adapter and you are getting good video from discrete graphics card after it boots into Windows, the card is working fine.

the issue of not seeing bios video through card during POST is minor inconvenience.

Correct driver seems to be installed by windows automatically. Yeah, the only thing is I can’t see bios during boot up. Otherwise it seems to be working fine.
