XPS 8960, internal 14TB HDD for storage
HI,
I am looking at an installing one internal HDD (Western Digital Gold 14TB) dedicated to storage in one of the free HDD slots in my XPS 8960. I already have a 1TB SSD which was included but I plan to use this for the operating system and apps only.
Please can someone tell me how I go about installing this internal HDD and if there are any settings that I need to change etc?
Many thanks
Wayne

Install it into an empty drive bay. Usually their are the required power can command cables in the cable bundle to connect to the drive.
Windows will see it (Disk Manager) as well as the BIOS. You can use it as a single large partition or divide it into multiple partitions with Disk Manager.

You shouldn't have a problem, it really is straight forward. I don't have an 8960, but when I put extra drives into our EBT2250 and my older XPS8940, the extra power and data cables were there. The Data connector was below the installed other hard drive, and the power was in the cable bundle. I assume the 8960 is the same. The Manual also would show you how to install the drive. It is possible you will need a 'caddy' though if there is not one already in the drive cage.

I checked your manual, page 22 and 23...
I see this:
Your cage might not have space for a 2nd drive (note the Data connector is shown twisted in the picture. Not sure if there is space for a 2nd drive in that cage. If not, on the left is another cage and it might have a caddy in it. Also the needed connectors might be in the cable bundle the other set came from.
If no caddy, you'll need to buy one, and possibly the power and data cable for the drive.
Page 63 of the manual shows the motherboard and its connections. The first drive should have the data cable for drive 1 in #9... and if there is one for the second, in #10. If not, you'll need to buy a cable and possible a power splitter cable as well.
