XPS 8960, installing a 2TB SSD?
Question about the M2x3 screw or drive choice. When I remove the side panel to open my XPS 8960 case, I can see the available slots, but they are facing me. I'd like to add a 2TB 2280 SSD. If I do that, the end of the card would just be hanging in space. There would be no place to secure it with a screw. Is that okay? Or should I pick a 2230 card that's not as long? When I called tech support, they were not real clear, but I think they said not to use a card that was longer than 2 or 2.5 inches. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

The M.2 SSD installation instructions in the service manual has indicated that you can install up to two of M.2 2230/2280 into the M.2 slots on the system board.
If the standoff screws are located at position for 2230 drives, you can unscrew it/them and move to the position for 2280 drives using Phillip head screwdriver.
Note that you must purchase M.2 screw to fasten on top of the standoff screw to hold down the new SSD.

The slot is oriented so that anything I plug into it would stick out perpendicular to the board. The opposite end of the card would just be floating in space. There is nothing to screw it to.

There should be a standoff. Picture of your system board at M.2 area will help with understanding your situation.

Might be looking at the wrong socket for M.2 drives.
