XPS 8960, external USB DVD drive not seen

Quick question, having problems getting my 8960 to recognise an external DVD drive (I need to load a program from DVD), drive works ok in an old laptop but in 8960 File Explorer its not showing, if I tap 'This PC' DVD icon appears next to' C Drive icon' in new window but if I tap DVD icon no response, if you have an external drive working ok just wondered which type/port please, I tried connecting via all front case USB ports and nothing though showing power led on external drive, many thanks.

I tried an unbranded DVD drive on my PC one time and it was hit or miss if it worked or not.  It's rare I need it, but I use an external LG DVD drive with it's own power coming from an outlet and not USB.  It works great.  At least try a branded DVD drive.  I doubt the problem is the PC or OS.

Many thanks for all you advice, worked using one of the rear USB ports in the end, more about the quality of the drive I think.

What specific external USB DVD drive model?

"drive works ok in an old laptop"
Running what operating system?

"I tried connecting via all front case USB ports"
Test it on the four rear USB-A ports =

@DELL-Chris M Many thanks for advice will try the rear ports, unbranded DVD drive, Windows 10 laptop, windows 11 8960 could be a power issue.

Maybe not a lot of use to you but I fitted an old Pioneer BDR-S09 BluRay/DVD writer from my previous PC into an external enclosure (Sata to USB) and it works fine with my 8960. (Reads and writes DVDs)

Plugged into a rear USB port.
