XPS 8960, Dell.CoreServices.Client using massive resources

I think this just started after a Dell software update. I have a XPS 8960, i9, 64mb memory running Windows 11 Home. When the computer starts this service starts grabbing more and more memory and 6% processor until it tops out where you see it in the below pic. All together the Dell services and using a total of over 14gb. Since I have plenty of memory I haven't seen any issues yet but why does Dell grab more memory than everything else combined?

If willing, test the DDPM 2.1.0.24. Marking as solution for visibilty purposes.

* If installed, uninstall Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update
* Restart when done and retest

If that does not fix the issue or you did not have it installed, you will need to uninstall other Dell apps one at a time plus restarting PC until you find the faulty app.

Thanks for the response Chris. I removed all Dell apps, Support Assist and DDPM and reinstalled with no change so I have removed all Dell apps and services. These apps are not very important to me so I will just leave them off. I may try them in the future if a fix is found.

@tvanpool

"so I have removed all Dell apps and services"
Are you saying that by doing this above, it did NOT solve the issue with CoreServices?

I think that CoreServices might be installed when MyDell app is installed. Did you see MyDell app?

Chris, this is a list of items removed using Revo Uninstaller.

1. Dell Display and Peripheral Manager.

2. Dell Core Services.

3. Dell Peripheral Core.

4. Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update.

5. Dell SupportAssist Remediation.

6. Dell SupportAssist.

After removing all this I reinstalled DDPM and all seemed good. Later I reinstalled SupportAssist and that was when it started the same resource grabbing.  I seem to remember a My Dell icon but I never used it and am not sure which uninstall took it away.

I searched the internet looking for solutions but found no solutions but many others seeing the same issue like Martin_RK above.

I had a chat with "tech support" and they told me it was normal and there was no problem.

As far as I am concerned it not a big deal and caused no issues so I will just do without Dell's bloatware.

I have the same issue with my XPS 15 9500 (32 GB)

  • The application is named 'Dell.CoreServiceClient' (located in 'C:\Program Files\Dell\TechHub')
  • Memory allocation differs over time
    • some times reaches up to 24 GB!!!
    • when I starteted this comment, it was 8 GB
    • currently it's 1 GB
  • CPU load is minimal (most of the time.

I wasn't aware of thet before. Perhaps it's related to my Win10 => Win11 Upgrade a few days ago?

I'll try to uninstall all DELL service apps the next days and coming back.

But I'm a bit disappointed, as this kind of issue should have been visible to DELL to when testing the apps.

@tuberkulum Based on my online chat with Dell tech support this is normal. I don,t know what the actual impact is to the operation of the computer but to my uneducated mind it looks bad and these apps provide little that isn't available elsewhere so I just uninstalled all Dell software.

@tvanpool Thx for your feedback. Some DELL applicarions are very helpful for me, e.g.. the DDPM DellPeripheralAndDisplayManager (I use a U3421WE with integrated USB KVM Switch), and like to do use it the future.

@DELL-Chris M  Some months ago I saw, that the DDPM replaces the pair auf PeripheralManager and DisplayManager (which I used before). So I uninstalled both of them and installed the DDPM (still on Win10), which worked well in general. Two weeks ago I upgraded to Win11, because the MS Win11ChecTool and DELL Website tells, my machine (XPS15 9500) is compatible. and that worked too.

But now I see that rsing resource consumption of the Dell.CoreServices.Client. It currently consumes 6 GB (of 32 GB), sometimes much more (up to 24 GB), which looks much too much for a background service. From my programmers side of view, I assume a memory leak in the application.

I double checked the DELL DDPM installation website and now see, that the DDPM is NOT compatible for Win11.

Perhaps that is the reason for the memory consumption? DDPM is about 1 year old, Win11 about 4 years.

Could you please tell, when there will be a Win11 compatible version?

@tuberkulum

You failed to show in your picture which version of DDPM?

All of the DDPM versions here = FAQ Windows OS DDM and DDPM

support Windows 11.

@DELL-Chris M Sorry, always a good idea to give the version.

Microsoft Windows 11 Pro Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100

It's DDPM 2.0.3.9, installed before upgrading to Win11.

It looks I have the latest DDPM version.

The DELL website which tells it's not compatible (see screenshot above):

https://www.dell.com/support/home/de-de/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=9Y7HM

Interesting to see, that if I go another way to search to support software, I get this on a another DELL support site currently only older versions are offered for download (same link as above):

Nevertheless, the DDPM might not be the problem, the Dell.CoreService.Client is the one, which consumes memory, curently 6 GB (currently rising with +500 MB per 20 sec, DDPM running active in the background):

I think that CoreServices might be installed when MyDell app is installed. Can you check to see if MyDell app is installed?

@DELL-Chris M I reinstalled DDPM and did not get the Dell.CoreServices.Client.

I then reinstalled Support Assist and CoreServices.Client came back. Just did this about an hour ago and it is not using but about 50mb memory for now. I will keep it installed and see if it acts up again. I don't see any MyDell anywhere.
