XPS 8960, can no longer access my NAS
I just received my system back from Dell after repair of the heat sink/fan. When the system was returned, I could no longer access my network-attached storage RAID drive (a Buffalo Linkstation 220). When I open the Buffalo utility, I can see the drive and access its properties and setup... I just can't open the directories or portions I've mapped on it. I can still access the NAS device from other PCs on my network just fine, but not from the computer Dell just repaired.
ANy ideas?

Verify that your PC is connected to your network as private network, not as a public network.

Yes… it is set as being on a private network.

It’s particularly frustrating being able to do administrative tasks on the NAS using Buffalo’s browser-based utility, yet not be able to get at files on the same machine!

Disconnect and then remap again.

Did Dell update the OS? Are you on Windows 24H2? If it still doesn't work after remapping, then it probably is, MS problems many have.

Hi, I don't believe Dell updated the OS. The OS is Win 11 Pro ver 10.0.26100 Build 26100.
I can't remap the drive, as I can't see it in Windows Explorer to remap!

@Matt_Klare
If you use MSINFO32 to see your Windows veresion, it will show as "10.0.2100 Build 26100" like mine does. However, run WINVER and that tells you the actual version:
So they might have updated the OS for you. Especially if Windows Update has not told you you have updates.
All is not lost. As long as you KNOW the SHARENAME you can still do a NET use to share it as a drive letter on your PC.
Here, as I've done to make X: on my PC the ROUTER'S USB drive:
==================
C:\>net view \\tp-share
Shared resources at \\tp-share
Share name Type Used as Comment
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G Disk
The command completed successfully.
C:\>net use x: \\tp-share\g
The command completed successfully.
C:\>Dir x:
Volume in drive X is g
Volume Serial Number is 2C20-1E29
Directory of X:\

09/02/2024 07:10 AM <DIR> System Volume Information
09/02/2024 07:10 AM <DIR> VProRecovery
===============
That drive letter will reconnect (assuming the LAN is connected) on every reboot. Don't want it anymore, use NET USE X: /d do disconnect it. (X: can be any letter not already used for a drive).

Thank you! I’ll give that a shot when I get back home!

Thank you all... I healed it! The permissions in the Buffalo admin utility had gotten messed up and with a lot of digging, I found and fixed the problem.
THANK YOU!!
