XPS 8960, application crashes in event log

I'm suddenly getting a good number of Dell application crashes reported in the event log.

I think they started after one of the recent Dell support updates.

PC is a six month old 8960

Example:

Faulting application name: NVMEHostmetadata.exe, version: 12.8.0.11, time stamp: 0x679b728b
Faulting module name: VCRUNTIME140.dll, version: 14.34.31931.0, time stamp: 0x254173a7
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000398c
Faulting process id: 0x0x25DC
Faulting application start time: 0x0x1DB7E2659E7A154
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\UpdateService\Service\InvColPC\bin\NVMEHostmetadata.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\UpdateService\Service\InvColPC\bin\VCRUNTIME140.dll
Report Id: be82795e-c206-4af7-b071-4d75baefcda7
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

Any ideas?

Cheers

Do you have Dell Update installed?  Dell recently terminated support for Dell Update.

So for starters, disable Dell Update on the Startup tab in Task Manager, reboot, and see if that stops these errors.

Assuming that stops them, uninstall Dell Update. Dell Update's features have been combined into SupportAssist. So if you need those features, make sure you have latest version of SupportAssist installed.

@RoHe Thanks for the reply.

Attached is a snapshot of the Dell apps installed.

I've only applied what was suggested by Support Assist (I think)

Do you think that third one might be the issue?

Thanks

Certainly possible OS Recovery Plug-in for Dell Update causes those errors.  If it's listed on Task Manager's Startup tab, disable it. Then do a Windows Restart, not a normal shutdown and boot. See if the errors stop.

If that solves the problem, see if you can either uninstall that plug-in on the Windows Add/Remove screen or try using Revo Uninstaller (free).  Either way, manually set a system restore point before uninstalling anything...

Otherwise, try doing a System Restore using the last restore point available before 11/02/2025

@RoHe That was the problem. Uninstalled it and all is well again.

I think what happened was that after the issues with Support Assist recently, I decided to manually install future updates.

That one is still shown on the support website as a current update for the 8960?

Anyway, all sorted now. Many thanks for your help.
