XPS 8960, Anker A7505 USB hub, slow start

XPS 8960

XPS 8960

I have XPS 8960. I recently purchased an Anker A7505 USB hub and connected three external drives. It appears that the hub is interfering with start.  It now takes a minimum of Four minutes from pushing the power button until I see the DELL LOGO on the screen. The three drives connected to the hub were previously connected to USB ports on the computer and I noticed no similar start delay. Does anyone know what is happening? Can I use a different hub that won't do this?

Which USB port is hub connected to?  Does hub have its own external power adapter, or does it get all its power from the PC?

It sounds like PC is attempting to access the USB hub and its connected drives.  That attempt eventually times out, and PC eventually boots up.

What happens if you connect the hub without any USB devices plugged into it?

Don't see an option in BIOS setup to disable USB boot support, which would be an easy solution.  But, reboot and start tapping F2 as soon as you see Dell splash screen.  When BIOS setup opens, find the Boot Options list and make sure Windows Boot Manager is first on the list.  If you have to move Windows Boot Manager to the top, be sure to save the change when exiting setup. If it's already first, just exit without saving any changes.

Is it possible to disconnect the hub when you shut down and reconnect it after booting PC back to the desktop?

RoHe has great troubleshooting above. I will expand on one of his. Test the Anker A7505 USB hub on all USB-A ports =
Rear two blue USB-A 3.2 ports
Rear two black USB-A 2.0 ports
Front three USB-A 3.2 ports

@DELL-Chris M

The hub was connected to a blue port on rear.  I moved it to a black port and no change.  Leaving it in the black port I disconnected all of the drives and it started fine.  Then I checked with each drive connected individually.  All started fine.  Then I plugged all three in together and it started fine.  Moved it back to the blue port and started fine.  I did not keep track of which ports I originally used in the hub so I can't exactly duplicate my previous configuration but I no longer have a problem.  I can only guess that one of the ports in the hub creates the problem when I use it.  Thanks for your help.

Glad you got things sorted...

You probably want to reconnect the hub to a rear blue USB port so those USB drives will have faster USB connections - assuming the hub is USB3. And use the two rear black USB2 ports for mouse and keyboard.
