XPS 8950, processor upgrade, i7, 13th gen?

I have a Dell XPS 8950 Intel 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12400 2.50 GHz, 32GB ram DDR5, 1TB Samsung 980 Pro and Nvidia RTX 3050 8GB. Everything is standard default.

My questions =

I will like to upgrade to i7. Can you recommended which processor to get?

Do I need to upgrade my heatsink as well?

Do I need to upgrade my power supply 450 watt?

Do I need to add Voltage Regulator VR Heatsink? Mine doesn't have it.

And last, is it true that I can upgrade to Intel 13 gen processor?

Please let me know.

Thanks

@ejn63 Thank you. All i find on Ebay are Intel Core I7 12700 ES QXQ4 8+4 12 Cores 20 Threads LGA 1700 CPU Processor.

Do you know what ES stand for. Is same as regular Intel Core I7 12700

ES = engineering sample.  They are not supposed to be resold -- they're for manufacturers to use in testing boards, systems, etc.  You have no way to know whether they're unused or have been thrashed to near destruction -- buy with care.

These aren't inordinately expensive brand new and warranted.  If you decide to chance an ES unit, make sure the discount makes the risk worthwhile (and that the seller is reputable as Intel will not warrant an ES CPU to an individual buyer).

Op, be thoughtful and marking accepted answer after you received the answer(s) for your query would help others with the same or similar questions.

@vicm98  To answer a couple of your other questions...

The i5 you have is 65w base with 117w max turbo.  The i7-12700 has the same base watts, but has 180w max turbo.  I don't know if you'd ever hit max turbo, or if the motherboard even allows it.

If you have the pancake style heatsink, there's a couple of options worth considering.  One is a tall heatsink with copper pipes and a fan in the middle.  Second option is liquid cooling.  See screengrab below.  I Googled "XPS 8950 heatsink."

As for PSU, your RTX 3050 is only 130w.  Needing a PSU upgrade is unlikely.

I don't know much about VRM heatsinks.  But it certainly doesn't sound like a bad idea to keep things running cool.
