XPS 8950, Dell Firmware 0.1.17.1

XPS 8950

XPS 8950

I have an XPS 8950 Windows 11. Windows Update installed this firmware update this morning and I restarted the computer. No problems. I ran Dell Update and there was a BIOS update, which I did not install. I cannot find information about the firmware update. I do not intend to do the BIOS update. Any information and advice would be appreciated.

Choose either Windows or Dell for bios updates.

No need to run the Dell update.

If you prefer Dell, make sure to disable the capsule update in the bios.

Myself, no issues with letting Windows handle it and so far, it has always been optional.

Maybe because I never wait that long to instal a new one.

BIOS 1.17.1:

"This release contains security updates as disclosed in the Dell Security Advisories DSA-2023-344, DSA-2023-364, DSA-2023-435, and DSA-2023-449. For more information, see Dell Security Advisories and Notices. "

For the record, Windows Update always puts a zero in front of Dell's official BIOS version number. So Dell lists it as 1.17.1 but WU names it 0.1.17.1.

Just don't ask why WU adds the zero. We've asked but never gotten a response...

IMO, this just creates more confusion...
