3080 flashes black screen under load for about a second or two

4080 black screen plue video artifacts like pixelation and glitches.

sometimes games crashing. but rarely

different monitors different resolutions different cables were tested.

upgraded to watercooled all temps are stable

What version of BIOS is installed?

When was last time motherboard battery was replaced? A weak battery can cause all kinds of strange issues. You might want to start with this, if nothing else than to rule the battery out.

Are all fans running correctly?

How much RAM is installed and how much is free?

Any errors logged in Windows Event Viewer around the time of a video problem?

No offense, but is the monitor connected to the GPU and not to the onboard Intel Graphics DP port?

Which NVidia driver version is installed? NVidia driver 32.0.15.5612 that got installed on my XPS 8930 by Windows Update caused video freezes and dozens of errors in Event Viewer. Had to uninstall it and get different one directly from NVidia's site, and PC stable again.

Are all your other drivers up to date?

Have you scanned thoroughly for malware recently. Malwarebytes (free version) would be a good tool for this.

You might want to install a free app like HWMonitor or Speccy to monitor CPU, GPU and drive temps. They can be set up to load automatically at every boot.

all latest drivers always bios is updated

i build pcs since like 1999

just never had an issue that is not traceable anywhere there are no logs

and basically the only hardware that was not changed is the motherboard and cpu and possibly the original ram that was in it.

i just realized i only ran the test on the new ram i added not the original that came with it which whouldnt be the issue but who knows maybe it dont like the new ram and they have conflict of interest or something...
now that i think about it the display port monitor was flickering when this happens but not the hdmi.
now that both monitors are connected by display port they both flicker.

but this happened on 2 different gpus so its not the gpu itsself

is there some kind of issue with display port that would make it do that?

How much RAM in this system?  Are you mixing one OEM module with one new one from different brand or...? Which slots, counting from CPU is RAM installed in?  Did you clear (reset) BIOS after each change in RAM config?

Are you sure new RAM is compatible with this PC? Dell PCs can be fussy about RAM, even when the specs seem correct. That's why many users on this forum buy RAM from Crucial.com. They guarantee it works in the PC model selected, or they take it back for full refund. And mixing different brands of RAM can cause issues too, especially when you don't install them installed in matched pairs. So try only new RAM module(s), one at a time in 2nd slot from CPU with all other RAM slots empty.

Are both monitors connected to the GPU, or one to GPU DP and one to onboard Intel Graphics DP? Have you tried removing add-in GPU and testing each monitor, one at a time, using the onboard Intel DP port?

Did you run Malwarebytes?

You can try this:

  1. At desktop, open a CMD prompt window, Run as administrator
  2. At the prompt, type in: chkdsk c: /r and press Enter. Accept offer to run chkdsk at next boot and reboot. It runs before Windows loads so be patient. Read this to view chkdsk log.
  3. Assuming no "unfixed" drive errors from chkdsk, back at desktop, open CMD as in #1
  4. At the prompt, type in: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and press Enter. Include a space in front of each / and note any error messages when that's done.
  5. Assuming no "unfixed" errors in #4, at the CMD prompt, type in: sfc /scannow and press Enter. Include a space in front of the / and note any errors when that's done.
  6. Assuming no "unfixed" errors in any of above, reboot and test DP again.
