XPS 8940, support Gen4 M.2 Gen 4 speeds?

Google Search AI says that this model (XPS 8940) CAN support a Gen4 M.2 drive running at Gen4 speeds but requires a BIOS update.  From what it seems, this is the latest BIOS update for this model.  That said, has anyone been able to get this PC to run a Gen4 M.2 drive at Gen4 speeds?

Thank you in advance for answering.

AI or not, you may install a Gen 4 SSD but the XPS 8940 does not support M.2 NVMe Gen 4 speed.

@Chino de Oro Thanks for the info.  That said, has anyone tried a Gen4 m.2 PCIe Expansion card on this PC and been able to get the M.2 to run at Gen4 speeds?

Yes, with specific system configurations, you can get an NVMe SSD installed on PCIe adapter to perform at PCIe Gen 4 speed.  But not from the M.2 slot.

It's clear from the XPS 8940 Spec sheet that the M.2 is Gen3.

This is mostly a cap on throughput speed which is not a huge deal for most users.

I'd still drop a Gen4 Samsung 990Pro in there if it were me because performance isn't just about throughput.
