XPS 8940, replace 256GB SSD with 512GB or 1TB
I currently have a DELL XPS 8940 desktop computer. It has an 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11700 @ 2.50GHZ processor. It has 16GB of RAM.
System type is 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor.
It is running Windows 11 Home Version 23H2.
The C:\drive is PCIe Gen3 x 4 /Solid State Drive, CL1-30256-Q11 NVMe SSSTC 256GB.
I want to know if I can purchase at least a 512GB or 1GB replacement for my 256GB C: drive.
If this is possible, can you recommend a replacement and also the procedure to do the replacement installation?
I have attached a photo of my existing C:\Drive.

Thank you

I'd go with a Gen4 Samsung 990 Pro even though it will run @ PCIe v3.
I'd go with the heatsink version since that 8940 case is on the small side.
You can either migrate your current drive to it OR do a fresh clean install which I would do using the latest Win11 build.
Make sure you change your storage mode to ACHI from the default RAID mode before the install.

Thank you for the info, but my current C:\ is only 30mm, or 1.81102 inches long. The Samsung 990 is 3.16" long.

Yes, the 8940 can handle both.
You really don't want a 2230 anyway for your main drive.
Go with at least 1TB.

@Element115s4 Can you provide the instructions on how to migrate my existing drive to the new SSD? That way I can just replace the existing C drive with the new one. Thanks

@Sams PC
I would suggest a fresh Win11 install by removing your current M.2 SSD and buying an external M.2 case so you can pull the data off it once the O/S is freshly installed and updated.
If not, you can migrate via the same method (Samsung makes that super easy) and then swap the drives.
